It seems like posting guitars that use this Sapele has become compulsory, so here's mine. I dropped this guitar and put a 5-6 inch crack in the back along the treble-side lower bout about an inch in from the edge (invisible now), so unfortunately it will have to be sold as a second.

John, great looking guitar. I'm confused how the back strip(s) are working. On the tail end there are three and on the neck end there are only two. Is the middle one fading away somehow? Got any pics? Is this the one that took you all of a week to build? (and finish?) |

Now there is a "second" I wouldn't mind owning! Looks great John. As the others said, more pics of that back would be nice. Its always nice to see something new like that. |

Thanks guys. Don, this guitar was a new venture in a lot of ways, so the CNC didn't get much play. Fret-slotting... rosette-cutting...that's about it. JJ, to be honest, I really struggled with bending these. I got a little lifting of the figure, but no cracks. The only thing I can recommend is to take your time and experiment with cutoffs if they're available. Paul, yes the guitar took about five days, with finish. Thanks to Tony Ferguson who generously shared his insights on alternative finishes with me. Here's a big shot of the back. Can you find the crack?

Beatiful work, John! How many hours did you work during the week it took to complete? The bend is very impressive in such figured wood. I bought a set of this sapele and haven't used it yet, but I think it's screaming out for me to do a florentine cutaway so I don't break the sides in two trying to bend a venetian. |

Ok, that's about the coolest back inlay I've seen. Really nice, creative work. There's a lot going on, but it doesn't take away from the wood. Only seems to compliment the figure. Steve |

Thanks again, guys. Kelby, I usually spend 60-70 hours a week in the shop. Hesh, the binding, rosette, fingerboard, bridge, heel cap, and headplate are all Pau Ferro. |

It's unique, and really works well with it. You hit this one out of the ballpark. |

Thanks everybody. Dennis, the wood came from the same place all my wood comes from; friends who are wood-aholics and don't have CNC machines of their own. Maybe someday I'll pay cash for wood....but I doubt it.  |

I really like your selection of back and side wood. Some of the figured sapele is a little too busy for my eye but yours has elegance, John. That pau ferro is a perfect compliment too. Great work. |
